The 2012 Ronald McDonald House of Albany Radiothon is now open. The auction will run from January 1, 2012 to January 21, 2012, with proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region in order to support our work to promotes the health, development and well being of children and their families. We accomplish this through the Ronald McDonald House, a home away from home for families of seriously ill children, and by creating and supporting programs that directly improve the lives of children and their families.
Auction items range from exotic vacation getaways to donated items guaranteed to delight and surprise. So, tell your friends, family, community. Let the bidding begin!
Why Bid? Why Donate?
Above all else, the greatest gift we give to sick kids and their families is time. Thanks to our organization, sick children have 4 hours more with Mom and Dad each day that they are in the hospital – Mom and Dad are not driving back and forth from home, they do not need to worry about cooking and cleaning. With an average stay of ten nights, each of the 450+ families we serve are able to spend 40 more hours bedside with their child. We also save our families money. We save our families at least $125/day in hotel and food costs…That is $1,250 over an average stay. And we never ask our families to pay for any of the costs related to their stay – which total $80 per night.
A recent study by a Ronald McDonald House Charities Chapter found that on average – families who are supported by a Ronald McDonald House are discharged .8 days sooner than comparable families whom are not staying at a Ronald McDonald House. With the average minimum cost of a night in the NICU or PICU around $2,500 per day, that represents a saving of $2,000 per family. Collectively our Albany Ronald McDonald House program saves families, health insurance providers, our government and hospitals $1.1 million dollars each year.
So when you boil it down, and add it all up, the $80 our community invests in each room night we provide a family, saves that family at least $325 in expenses. So for each dollar you invest in us, you save our families four.
