ABOUT CHUCK STEEDMAN
After losing both of his parents to cancer within 6 months of one another in 2002, Chuck Steedman got actively involved in the fight against cancer. He began riding in the Pan Mass Challenge when he was 40 and will be celebrating his 10th consecutive PMC shortly after turning 50. Over the 9 years of riding, Chuck has personally raised over $100,000 from an amazing and ever-changing group of donors. Chuck has dedicated himself to supporting the mission of the PMC to celebrate the memory of those who have lost loved-ones to cancer and perhaps more importantly, to those who are battling the disease and who will be the direct beneficiaries of the research and treatment that PMC’s efforts support. Chuck Steedman previously served as the Vice President of the Boston Red Sox, the presenting sponsor of the Pan Mass Challenge since 2003.
ABOUT THE PAN MASS CHALLENGE
The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge is an annual bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country. The organization was founded in 1980 and has since raised $338 million for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. The PMC pioneered the athletic fundraising industry and is a model of fundraising efficiency. The PMC donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. In 2011, the PMC generated 52 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and was Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. More than 230,000 individual contributions were made to last year’s fundraising campaign. In 2012, PMC cyclists will ride with the goal of raising $36 million for Dana-Farber.
