First Night is private, non-profit organization whose long standing mission is to build community and celebrate diversity through the arts. At the heart of the organization’s mission is the First Night Neighborhood Network, a community-based outreach and arts education program that serves hundreds of kids in Boston’s neighborhoods. Over its 37 year history, the day long First Night Festival on December 31 typically attracts a million people who come to downtown Boston to enjoy over 200 exhibitions and performances, by both local and internationally recognized artists, in indoor and outdoor venues throughout downtown Boston and the Waterfront.
The First Night Festival features an afternoon Family Festival at the Hynes Convention Center, a Mardi Gras style Grand Procession that sweeps down Boylston Street, Colossal Ice Sculptures that dot the City’s landscape, and a dazzling Midnight Fireworks display over the Boston Harbor. Undoubtedly, First Night has become a cherished Boston tradition and a signature event of our City.
