This Art Could Save Babies

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Important work to raise awareness about Count the Kicks, a stillbirth prevention campaign, is taking place throughout October. Stillbirth is an almost unspeakable tragedy. Almost unspeakable, because for too many mothers, fathers and families, it is a crushing reality. One in 167 pregnancies in the U.S. ends in stillbirth. Every year, 24,000 babies die before they are born, leaving devastated parents never to hear their first cries. A disproportionate number of babies are born still to black and brown-skinned mamas. According to the CDC, a black woman is more than twice as likely to lose her baby to stillbirth than her white neighbor, colleague, friend.

Proceeds from this online auction benefit 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, Healthy Birth Day, Inc. and its Count the Kicks public health campaign targeting at-risk women. Winning bidders will receive a tax receipt in the mail when the amount they bid is greater than the fair market value of the art. In accordance with IRS guidelines, shipping and fees will be deducted from the donation amount.
