Item Description
Haitian painting by noted Haitian artist Calixte Henri (1933-2010). Henri is noted for the simplification of forms in his paintings and a brilliant use of color. This painting is an exceptionally fine example from his earlier work which was strongly influenced by cubism and impressionism. Calixte Henri's work has exhibited in Europe and he was a featured artist at the Guggenheim in the U.S. (approx. 26"x31")
Item Special Note
This painting was salvaged from Gallery Olivier, a long standing gallery close to the Hotel Oloffson, which was destroyed in the January 2010 earthquake. A few paintings by Calixte Henri were saved. The painting was lovingly repaired in Haiti and now is an important piece of Haitian culture that has been saved.
