The Medical Foundation of Chattanooga's primary initiative, the Project Access Community Health Partnership has donated more than $81 million in health care services to uninsured Hamilton County residents since April 2004. Project Access performs a vital function in coordinating medical care for the working poor. Through Project Access, people who are working can get needed treatment that might otherwise threaten they ability to work, and individuals whose medical conditions have made him/her unemployable can get treatment and often return to the workforce. More than 20% of patients who complete their care through Project Access report that they have then obtained health coverage. The Medical Foundation also organizes programs like the Youth Leadership Forum, which encourages promising high school students to consider careers in medicine, and community health advocacy to reduce infant mortality, fight the childhood obesity epidemic, and improve the health of the community.
