About the Artist: Victor Vasarely (1908 – 1997) was born in Hungary, moved to Paris in the 1930s, and first worked as a graphic designer before establishing his international reputation as a leader in the art world. In 1965, Vasarely was featured in New York’s MoMA’s exhibition, "The Responsive Eye,” which showcased major examples of the new movement known as Optical (or Op) Art. Central to this new genre was the creation of the illusion of movement via static geometric imagery, as well as the impact of the interaction of color relationships on human perception. Vasarely received numerous important awards and honors, including the Guggenheim Prize; his work is found in almost every museum in the world which houses contemporary art.
