Item Description
I wanted to describe the sense of endurance and longevity of the musical West Side Story, and I thought that could be illustrated best by literally covering a long section of the violin, front and back, creating a connecting pathway. I used acrylic paint to create small coordinating vignettes along this “path” beginning with the Maestro conducting, along the undulating rainbow colored staff, up to the intense West Side Story logo on the front. The path continued to the back, moving along a fire escape platform several stories high at nighttime where I painted a secret quiet passionate tryst. A direct straight passageway down the ladder ends in lively and vibrant dancers. Of course I added a touch of sparkling glitter here and there to highlight the glitz and glamour of the musical and its creator!
