Item Description

This large, magnificent oil on panel piece by New York artist Nick Patten is titled "The Conservatory, Troy," and it measures 36" x 24" framed. 

Artist Statement:

"Settling on a composition for one of my room interior paintings is a progressive process. I pick and choose the most interesting and necessary elements from an array of photographs, often adding items from my imagination. Light & Dark is a primary focus of my painting, with particular attention to brush stroke and gradation in the darkest areas. Though working from photographs with the aim of creating believable paintings, I strive to bring a quiet drama to everyday scenes. My paintings are never "photographic". In part, my aim is to make paintings where the content of the image is most compelling, and how the painting was made is secondary. In a sense, attempting to make the work exceed the medium."

Nick Patten's realist paintings are about light and surface. The artist works from photographs to develop haunting compositions of interiors that include highly reflective surfaces and dramatic lighting situations. At the same time, these works include objects of a mundane nature, such as chairs, tables, and doorways. The works are beautifully composed to draw you into quiet, but intimate scenes.

Patten received the Gold Medal of Honor in the Allied Artists of America annual exhibition, the Purchase Prize in the Society of American Graphic Artists annual exhibition, and the Purchase Prize in the Print Club of Albany annual exhibition. He has been juried into the International Guild of Realism. In 2009, Patten was exhibited at The Cape Cod Art Museum, Dennis MA; the Sherry French Gallery, NY; and the Southern Vermont Arts Center, Manchester, VT. His work is included in numerous public collections, including the New York Public Library, the Boston Public Library, the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University, and the Mohawk Paper Corporation. This item is available for purchase at the Cancer Community Center's Art Preview Party on March 8, 2012 at the Portland Regency Hotel, from 4-8pm, where the work will be available for viewing in person.  If unsold, online bidding will begin at 9:00am on March 9th, 2012. 

This item is large and fragile and may require special shipping.  Shipping of item, if needed, is not included in bid price.
