Item Description

Package includes 2 bottles from each vineyard. 2009 Vineyard Designate Pinor Noir, Pisoni Vineyard This is our second bottling from the highly celebrated Pisoni Vineyard. Gary Pisoni is the iconic grower whose Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir has brought worldwide attention to the Santa Lucia Highlands. Planted with renowned "Pisoni clone", this unique vineyard produces amazing Pinots which can rival the best red Burgundies. We are particularly honored to be among the select few to receive fruit from Gary Pisoni. The 2009 wines are showing beautiful fruit definition and concentration, promising excellent ageing potential. We crushed just over 7 tons of beautiful Pisoni Pinot Noir grapes in 2009. They were hand sorted and put into three small fermenters, each with a different yeast, and hand punched two to three times each day in order to extract every bit of flavor. Once fermentation and pressing were complete, the wines were aged in French oak barrels for ten months and bottled in August, 2010. 2009 Vineyard Designate Pinor Noir, Rosella`s Vineyard The Santa Lucia Highlands are known as one of the premier Pinot Noir appellations of the world. One reason for this lofty reputation is Rosella's Vineyard. Gary Franscioni planted his home ranch, named for his lovely wife, in the heart of the Highlands. Gary's home vineyard is planted with a selection of the best available Pinot Noir clones and farmed with unparalleled passion and attention to detail. We at Bernardus are fortunate to have access to three small blocks planted with clone 777, Pommard clone and the celebrated Pisoni clone. Each block is monitored for ripeness individually in order to hand-pick each clone at its perfect ripeness level. The grapes are sorted at the winery and fermented in small individual fermenters using specially selected yeasts. Once fermentation and pressing are complete, each lot is aged separately for 10 months in the finest French oak barrels. Each barrel is evaluated individually and the final selection is made through a lengthy series of tasting trials. The final blend was bottled in August, 2010.
