Food & Gourmet Items
Barley Beef is offered by a group of small family-run farms in Central Oregon. Our two main farm familes are the Borlen Cattle Company and the Rastovich Family Farm. Together we raise a modest herd of cattle that we like to call Barley Beef. We've been raising cattle for almost 100 years.
Our site (www.barleybeef.com) has really only one purpose: to allow you to enjoy some quality, home-grown beef. No hormones, no crowded processing plants, no corporate meat farms — just well-fed and nurtured cattle. Browse around and learn a little bit about Barley Beef, and then get your name on our customer list. But you might not want to drag your feet, since it's first-come, first-serve around here!
How much Barley Beef should I buy?
Our first response is that you should buy as much as you can afford; after all, you are supporting the circle of life:
- You drink the Beer.
- Deschutes Brewery makes more Beer.
- Which feeds the cows.
- Which feeds you — so you can....
- Drink more Beer!
To give you an idea, we have a family of six (three teenagers, one active boy and my wife and me), and we'll go through a whole cow in 12 months. That's eating some type of meat product: hamburgers, roasts, steaks, etc., about 2-3- times a week.
A side of beef (which is half of a cow) would be ample for a family of four for about a year. Our most common size is a quarter-beef.
Sampler Pack, which is 25 lbs. of beef (includes steaks, roast, and ground beef). Retail value $125.00
Certificate is valid for Barley Beef "Sampler Pack" ONLY. No cash value. Expires July 1, 2013.
