Item Description

Sabrina Knowles and Jenny Pohlman’s collaborative journey has taken them to faraway places and back to their studio, where they share deep conversations and reflections, joys and losses, growth spurts and eddies. Their work begins with a concept or a philosophy or a desire to bring a visual quality to their experiences with each other and with people around the globe. They design and create glass forms, design and fabricate steel mounts and armatures and adorn their works with beads from around the world. They are currently working to incorporate graphic imagery into their work. The intent with each of their works is to engage viewers for a moment of reflection and impart them with a sense of our global humanity.

Designing, creating and assembling contemporary forms from molten glass inspired by the ancient, universal language of symbols, Knowles and Pohlman have been visually storytelling for nearly 20 years. Their work is in the collections of the Museum of American Glass, Museum of Glass, Mobile Museum of Art and Racine Art Museum among others, and in prestigious private collections nationwide. They are the recipients of numerous awards including Pratt Fine Art Center’s Service in the Arts award, BAG’s Saxe Fellowship award and residencies at the Museum of Glass and Wheaton Arts.
