Wine
Item Description
An unusual collection from one of the Napa Valley’s most prestigious mountain wineries. A 1.5L of 2002 Smith-Madrone Cabernet Sauvignon comes with three books which reference the winery extensively (A Moveable Thirst: Tales and Tastes from a Season in Napa Wine Country by Rick Kushman, A Hedonist in the Cellar: Adventures in Wine by Jay McInerney and James Conaway’s The Far Side of Eden: New Money, Old Land and the Battle for Napa Valley). Each book is autographed by Stuart Smith, who founded the winery in 1971. As Michael Steinberger recently wrote in Slate.com (http://www.slate.com/id/2236309/), "Smith-Madrone is the best California winery that you've never heard of, turning out exemplary cabernets, chardonnays, and rieslings."
Smith-Madrone’s 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the vineyard surrounding the winery on the steep slopes at the top of the Spring Mountain District in the northern Napa Valley. The grapes thrive in the dry-farmed red loam soil of this very unique terroir. This Cabernet packs enough distinctiveness to merit aging in your cellar or nearer-term enjoyment, given its complexity and elegant tannic backbone.
