Item Description
"Aapka Swagat Hai" (meaning “You are welcome” in Hindi) is the greeting President Obama gave Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the first state dinner of his presidency last November. Young School Alumni Parent Billa Donaldson makes the same gesture tonight by offering an evening of Indian food and culture to 20 adventurous guests at the beautiful home of TYS parents Suzanne and Shane Pavitt. Billa, who is named for a strong tigress, was born in the Punjab and excels at the region’s trademark tender tandooris, crispy pakoras, and rich spicey masalas. Come wearing your brightest tunics and your hosts will bedeck you in bindis and henna tattoos. Billa’s cousin and friends will be on hand to perform Bhangra, a Punjabi harvest dance, and teach any willing guests. Billa herself performed Bhangra at the Sydney Opera House when she was 15 years old. And since this is the Wine Country, test a variety of wines such as Domaine Chandon Sparkling Rosé, Beringer Reserve Chardonnay and Failla Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir to see how well they go with Indian food. Depending on the weather, this exotic evening will take place poolside on colorful cushions or in the shelter of the Pavitts' chameleon-like barn transformed into a desert oasis. Security will be tight – no party crashers. So put up your paddle for a coveted spot and keep it up.
