Item Description
This is "Rocky Point from Warwick Pier" -- a hand-colored, woodcut engraving. It's from "Picturesque America" -- a pair of picture books popular in the mid 19th Century, featuring the work of many notable illustrators. It was created by William Hamilton Gibson, who was known for a nearly photographic ¬-- almost microscopic ¬-- accuracy of detail in his work. Donated by Stephan and Julia Brigidi of the Bristol Workshops in Photography, Bristol, RI, the mint-condition print itself measures 5" x 10". Matted in museum board, overall dimensions are 14" x 16" in its gold wood frame.
