Item Description
Even at an early Madelynne Dela Rama, an alumna of NJCU, has always had a strong interest in art. While still in high school she has won awards for her art such as the Permanent Student Art Collection (02-04) and the Governer's Award in Arts Education ('04). She also won scholarships for pre-college programs from the Rhode Island School of Design ('03) and the Marie Walshe Scholarship ('03). Madelynne continued to excel in her field during college by being awarded with the Talent Scholarship ('04) from NJCU and the Cinquino + Co. Scholarship from the Art Director's Club of New Jersey ('07). After graduating from New Jersey City University with a B.F.A. in Ilustration ('09) she now works part-time in Office of Marketing at her alma mater, during which she won American In-house Design Award ('09). Her work has been influenced by Japanese animation and comics and admires other artists such as Tomer Hanuka, Jo Chen, and Shawn Barber.
“If insight could be visualized, it would probably look like the work of Madelynne Dela Rama. This young artist sees beyond the color, shapes, and figures, and touches at the soul of all that is powerful in life. One’s breath is always taken away by Ms. Dela Rama’s work.” - Allan A. De Fina, Ph.D. Interim Dean, Deborah Cannon Partridge Wolfe College of Education, NJCU
"Madelynne is talented and articulate in developing artistic works. Her art objects, whether drawing or painting, evolve out of considerable thought and disciplined skill; they are clean clear and balanced, pleasing to the eye in there finished quality." - Professor Ray Statlander
