Item Description

“LIFTING THE WEIGHT”

This mask was created by Denver artist Charles Wooldridge and is titled, “LIFTING THE WEIGHT.” Mr. Chotin hopes this mask will symbolize the ability of hospice care to raise individuals above the tremendous weight of being ill and dealing with the physical and mental trappings of knowing that the end of life is near.  Hospice not only helps “lift the weight” off those facing their own mortality, but it supports their families and loved ones as well.

The Mask’s Inspiration:
Mr. Wooldridge incorporated the mask into a sculpture comprised of recycled materials including a 45-pound weight, which conveys the symbolism of the mask.  Secondary to the mask’s overall message is the concept that art can be “green,” and the use of recycled materials signifies the idea that so much about being an artist is about working with what you have in front of you.  It is through this understanding that greater life lessons are brought to light.  Mr. Wooldridge graciously donated his time, talent and materials for the creation of “LIFTING THE WEIGHT.”
