Item Description

This Wine Basket includes 8 bottles of Shiraz wine: - Jim Barry "The Lodge Hill Shiraz" 2007 (Australia, Clare Valley region) Tasting Notes: "Polished and appealing for its blackberry and white pepper flavors. Finishes harmoniously, with well-buffed tannins. Drink now through 2014. " 90 Points - Wine Spectator - Massena "The Moonlight Run" 2006 (Australia, Barossa Valley) Tasting Notes: Wine Advocate: The 2006 Moonlight Run is composed of 54% Grenache, 24% Shiraz, 16% Mourvedre, and 6% Cinsault sourced from vineyards ranging in age from 85-150 years with yields under one ton per acre. The wine was aged for 18 months in seasoned French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it offers up a superb aromatic array of balsam wood, earth notes, wild blueberry, and black cherry. Forward, easygoing and seamless on the palate, this silky-textured wine can be enjoyed over the next eight years. The Massena wines are made by the talented Dan Standish.Score: 92. â"Jay Miller, February 2009 - Backsberg Pumphouse Shiraz, South Africa 2004 Tasting Notes: Pumphouse Shiraz is a specially crafted cuvée selected on the basis of varietal character and intensity. Black cherry and raspberry fruits are given added complexity via subtle aniseed and vanillin tones derived from maturation and small French and American oak barriques. The palate has weight and depth due to layers of fruit tannins and sheer flavour intensity. Enjoy now or within next 7 - 10 years. - Red Knot Shiraz, South Australia 2007 Tasting Notes: Dark cherry red with youthful purple hues. Lusciousripe strawberry & blackberry aromas are highlighted with scents of orange blossom, spice & savory oak. The mid-palate overflows with ripe berries & has a long, fresh, fruit finish, accentuated with mocha flavored American & French oak. - Petite Rousse 2004 (California, Paso Roble) Tasting Notes: "Another uber-value juicy, jammy Syrah from Tim and Mimi Spear! Identical to the 2001 and 2002 "petite Rousse" the 2004 "petite rousse" comes from 100% free run juice which (1) allowed Tim & Mimi to avoid fining and (2) greatly tamed the amount of rustic tannin evident in Paso Robles Syrah." -Winer - Dolium Malbec Petit Reserva Syrah 2005 (Argentina, Mendoza) Tasting Notes: Color is dark ruby/light purple. Red berry fruit and smoke on the nose carry through to the palate nicely. A nicely restrained use of oak and moderate tannin level contribute to the smooth palate. - Domaine La Roquete 2005 (France, Chateauneuf du Pape) Tasting Notes: James Molesworth, Wine Spectator: "Layers of exotic fig, boysenberry and loganberry fruit ripple across the lush, dense structure, while hints of red licorice, linzer torte, mesquite and plum sauce. - Stolpman Vineyards Estate Santa Ynez Syrah 2006 (California) Tasting Notes: 92 points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Syrah Hilltops Estate exhibits an incredibly fragrant nose of honeysuckle, black cherries, and cassis intermixed with hints of smoke and that underlying floral component. Its provocative character is not dissimilar from a ripe Cote Rotie from the northern Rhone. This creative, individualistic effort should drink nicely for 7-8 years. Stolpman Vineyards continues to produce impressive wines under the guidance of the highly regarded Santa Ynez winemaker, Sashi Moorman." (06/08). Also included are: - The Wine Wise book. A complete guide to understanding, selecting, and enjoying wine. - Two, $100 gift certificate towards wine or cooking classes at the famous Institute of Culinaty Education.
