BIOGRAPHY
Ross Bleckner is well known for his large-scale paintings that deal primarily with remembrance and loss, operating as memento mori to those lost in crisis. The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of Art had a major retrospective of his works in 1995, summarizing two decades of solo shows at acclaimed exhibition venues such as SFMoMA, Contemporary Arts Museum, Stockholm Moderna Museet and the Carnegie Museum of Art. Works by Bleckner are also held in esteemed public collections, including those of MOMA, New York; MOCA, Los Angeles; Astrup Fearnley; Museo National Centro de Arte Reina Sofia and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Bleckner is represented by Mary Boone Gallery and Lehmann Maupin Gallery in New York and Alaine Noirhomme Gallery in Brussels. Born in New York, he received his MFA from CalArts.
