Item Description
Adore aquamarine? With one of these lovely pins, you can add a sparkling splash of sea blue, whatever else you're wearing. The brooch shown at left will complement your yellow gold jewelry, while the other goes with white gold or silver.
First let's talk about the gilt filigree beauty. Its delicate metalwork is pale gold in color, not a bit brassy. Size is about 1 1/2" round and the seven sparkling faux aquamarines are prong-set and open at the back for optimal brilliance. Despite being about 60 years old (made circa 1950), the jewel is in superb condition. Without extreme magnification, it doesn't even show slight wear on the reverse. I recently saw online a new designer brooch almost identical to this, and it was priced over $200! Those stones were also glass and the metal was plated, so the cost difference wasn't based on materials. It's just a good example of how much more we can easily pay for vintage knockoffs, compared to getting the real thing.
The other pin, which surrounds a pretend aqua with seven pretend diamonds, is of sturdy pot metal and measures about 7/8" round. It's older than the gold one -- most likely from the 1930s (possibly even the 1920s), but also in wonderful condition, with more surface wear at the back, as is age-appropriate.
Provenance of both is a Texas estate.
