Item Description
The Band 16" x 22" (including white border) black and white lithograph. Album cover shot for The Band.
Printed and signed by the photographer, Elliott Landy.
About the photograph:
This photograph was taken in 1969 on John Joy Road in the town of Woodstock. It was used as the album cover for their second, self-titled album, often referred to as 'the brown album' and endures as one of the defining images of this legendary and highly influential group.
Perhaps the best album by any Rock and Roll group ever. Timeless, soulful, seamless, a work that goes far beyond and yet is front-porch friendly.
--M.E. Cooper
Elliott Landy was there: he was the official photographer at the Woodstock Festival in 1969, and he shot many legendary photographs of icons like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin The Band, The Doors, Van Morrison and so many other musical heroes of the 1960s and 70s.
And of course, The Band.
Elliott Landy had unprecedented access to The Band, both before and after they blew the world away with their debut album, Music From Big Pink. Elliott shot all of the photos for that album, as well as the one you can bid on here - their second, self-titled album.
