Item Description

This in-depth evaluation in reading is relevant for parents who have a child, at any age, for whom they are concerned about their ability to read words and comprehend text. 

It includes in depth testing in the following areas:
Decoding
Phonemic awareness
Comprehension, which includes the assessment of skills such as critical thinking, interpretation, predicting, inferential thinking to name just a few...
The evaluation would also include a pre-consultation with the parents to get a thorough background on the child, as well as obtaining any records of results on standardized tests the child has taken to date.
Upon completion of the testing of the child, the protocols are to be scored and interpreted.  A final meeting would take place with the parents to present the findings (based on the information given by the parents in the pre-consultation, existing standardized testing and results from the 1-1 evaluation of reading skills).
If, a deficit is found, a treatment plan would be developed upon the scoring and interpretation phase. The details of this plan would be shared with the parents in the final meeting.

 

Item Special Note

THE COMPLETE EVALUATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

Initial meeting with parents to obtain background information  (1 hour)
Implementation of varied assessments to the child                    (Approx 1-2 hours)
Scoring and interpretation                                                             (Approx 1-1.5 hours)
Developing a treatment plan, if needed.                                      (Approx 30-60 min.)
Final consult with parents; sharing results.                                   (Approx 30-60 min)

 

Fatima parent, Amy S. has been a Special Education teacher for over 20 years in the Westport Public School System and holds 2 Masters Degrees in Education (Regular & Special Education).
The evaluation may take place at the child's home or their town's library.
Dates and Times to be mutually determined.
