ARTISTIC ENCOUNTERS IN PHILADELPHIA - March 23 -Travel with the Newark Museum to Philadelphia’s famous Museum of Art toill enjoy docent-led tours of two of their special spring exhibitions--the work of fashion designer and artist Roberto Capucci and work of early 20th century Paris including the works that Chagall made between 1910 and 1920 and works by his contemporaries such as Lipchitz, Modigliani, Soutine and Zadkine. Luncheon will be served at Bistro St. Tropez, atop the 4th floor of Philadelphia’s Marketplace Design Center. Following lunch visit The Rodin Museum for a docent-led tour of the works of this renowned sculptor.

Name Dropping at Metropolitan Museum & MOMA - April 7 -Travel to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to enjoy a docent led tour of Cezanne’s Card Players. This exhibition reunites for the first time the works from Cezanne’s series of card player canvases as well as their associated oil studies and drawings. The next guided tour is of paintings, decorative works, architectural elements and religious works created for an elaborate two acre private retreat built deep within the Forbidden City in 1771.  Luncheon will be at one of our East Side favorites, Atlantic Grill. The afternoon takes us to MoMA to for a guided tour of Picasso: Guitars. Bringing together some seventy closely connected collages, constructions, drawings, mixed-media paintings and photographs, this special exhibition offers fresh insight into Picasso’s cross-disciplinary process.

NEWARK JEWELS - Tiffany in Newark & Cherry Blossom Time - April 11Join our favorite Newark guide, Liz Del Tufo, for a day filled with surprises as she shares her vast knowledge of Newark with us. We visit the former Tiffany factory which now serves as a rental property in Newark’s North Ward. Next we visit the famed Tiffany House built by the Tiffany family in the Forest Hill Historic District. Luncheon will be served at the Spanish Manor, a favorite local restaurant serving the finest Spanish Portuguese cuisine. Finally visit Branch Brook Park at its most spectacular, during Cherry Blossom Time to view the world’s largest collection of flowering cherry trees. This is a broad outline of today’s highlights, however further surprises are in the works!

BEST KEPT SECRETS: The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden -May 10 -Join us as we drive to charming Ridgefield, CT to visit The Adlrich, Connecticut’s only contemporary art museum. This is one of the only non-collecting contemporary art museums in the US. Every time you visit there is something new to see. Our private docent will take us to view the works of several artists, all working within the broad theme of portraiture. A private luncheon will be served in the Gallery of the Hammond Museum. This afternoon we visit The Hammond Museum to escape our routine problems and find peace in an unhurried journey through the stroll gardens. The gardens are designed to refresh the spirit. Our docent will explain some of the concepts of Japanese gardens as we explore them.

OUTDOOR ODYSSEY Storm King Art Center & Skylands : The New Jersey Botanic Gardens - May 10  - Celebrate the relationship between sculpture and nature at Storm King Art Center. Our docent will provide commentary on the grounds and museum and then we are off for a tram tour of the magnificent property. Over 500 acres of landscaped lawns, fields and woodlands provide the site for postwar sculptures by internationally renowned artists. Luncheon will be served at Arta Italian Restaurant in Ringwood, New Jersey. This afternoon you will discover the Garden State’s hidden jewel, Skylands. We will tour Skylands Manor, designed by John Russell Pope in the mid 1920’s. This Tudor Revival Mansion was intentionally designed to look old. The interior includes exquisite objects collected from estates and castles throughout Europe.  We will also enjoy a tour New Jersey State Botanical Garden which surrounds the mansion. You can wander amid the elegance of formal gardens and experience the gentle paths winding through the woods. 

NEW JERSEY TREASURES - Grounds for Sculpture, Rats & The Zimmerli Museum of Art - June 15 - Experience contemporary sculpture in the museum buildings as well as the beautiful landscaped grounds of New Jersey’s exciting Grounds For Sculpture. We dine at Rats, one of the state’s finest restaurants, located right in the sculpture gardens. This afternoon we travel to the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum for a docent tour of the permanent collection. Particular strengths are in Russian and American art.

MUSIC AT MOHONK - Concerts, Tour and Lunch at Mohonk Mountain House Wednesday, June 22 - Travel to the beautiful Hudson Valley to spend the day at the Mohonk Mountain House Music Festival. We begin the day with a classical music concert and lecture in the comfort and intimacy of the Mountain House. Mohonk is an elegant Victorian style chalet resort that is well known for its beauty, unique architecture and charm. The many public rooms are elegantly furnished and have the character of the great hotels of the Canadian Rockies. We will enjoy a guided architectural tour of the property. A luncheon buffet will be served in the hotel dining room. This afternoon we enjoy another concert.
