Item Description
This drawing comes directly from Larson's contemplative Buddhist practice. "Make a hole in emptiness" is a phrase from Zen Master Keizan Jokin's account of the sainted Daitaka's transmission in the Denkoroku. Upon hearing this phrase Larson began masking off pure white octagons and then filling the space around them with immediate marks. Only later did the realization of what she was doing become apparent.
