Item Description

Nickel and Nickel 3L Bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 with Wooden Box

Vineyard Description: The home vineyard of Nickel & Nickel, Sullenger Vineyard is situated behind the winery in the heart of Oakville and is named for John C. Sullenger, who settled the farmstead in the 1880's. The vineyard's 30 acres of clay loam soil are planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon.

Harvest Notes: The season got off to a late start due to the rains in March and April. Budbreak occurred at the end of March, which signlaed that it was going to be a late year. The summer was moderate except for large heat spikes in June and July, however, since the entire season was late, the fruit was not at a point where the heat could cause much damage. We dropped crop early to bring the vines into balance, but we did have an expected increase in production as the new section of our vineyard matured. Nice fall weather slowly ripened the fruit, and we harvasted the entire vineyard at the end of October, as the cooler weather turned the leaves yellow.

Sensory Education: The wine has an ultra-ripe fruit expression, similar to other classic Oakville Cabernets. The signature of this vineyard remains constant, with cherry and black cherry fruits layered with sweet herb, spice and cedar from the oak. Rich and coating, the mouthfeel of the 2006 is similar to the 2005 vintage. The middle palate is sweet and plush and the meledy of flavors progress into a long, lingering finish.
