Item Description
Witness Nature's awesome power through the lens of photographer Ralph Bendjebar.
Madame Pele Meets the Ocean was taken in Volcano National Park on the island of Hawaii on February 25, 2007. Kilauea Volcano has been extraordinarily active the last few decades, and several lava flows are emptying into the ocean through a shelf of hardened lava at the end of Chain of Craters Road. I reached the entry point via an arduous 2 1/2 mile hike in the dark over old lava fields to photograph this scene at sunrise.
Photo is 12x18, matted to 18x24.
