Item Description
This lovely set of 3 Shaker boxes was grain painted by Beverly Dodd of Blue Hill. Grain painting is a technique that flourished in this country between 1810 and 1840. Each box of the set is painted with a different grain pattern. The technique used on the boxes is called "distemper graining" and requires several steps: sealing, sanding, coloring, glazing and varnishing.
The boxes measure: 4 1/4" high x 10" diameter; 3 3/4" x 9" diameter; 3 1/4" x 8" diameter.
