Additional Information: This lovely silkscreen depicts four women gathering flowers in a sun-drenched garden in Provence. The influence of the great French Impressionists can clearly be seen in Caron’s perfected appearance of loose brushwork and in her exquisite use of light and color to convey a serenely idyllic mood.
About the Artist: Sidonie Caron (1924-1977) was born in Germany. Her Jewish family was eventually forced to flee the Nazis, first escaping to Holland, then settling in England where Caron attended the St. Martin’s School of Art. She is best known for her landscape scenes and pastoral depictions of country life. Her charming work has been widely exhibited in both Europe and the US.
