Item Description

5 Rare Books on Architecture from Bright Lyons(Vintage & Antiques)

Bright Lyons is a colorful mixture of art and furniture, specializing in mid-century modern furniture. Owner Paul Bright was a former gallery owner from Ontario Canada dealing in art and design objects before venturing into his current passion of vintage Herman Miller and Knoll furniture. On a visit to New York City in 1999, Lyons happened upon a show at the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum on Charles and Ray Eames. It was from that exhibit that his infatuation for the couples work along with designs of that era developed. He would spend the next decade dealing in designer furniture before eventually ending up in Brooklyn. Bright Lyons’s collection includes some of the most important and iconic pieces from American designers. Items including George Nelson’s CSS shelving system, Charles and Ray Eames chairs and sofa, and Alexander Girard’s Braniff blankest and textiles. Sitting on the shelves and hanging from the walls are artworks from Rich Jacobs and Jordan Isip, punk flyers from Raymond Pettibon. Though the art may not appear to be aligned with the furniture, Bright makes it all work cohesively. The store is also stocked with mid-century ephemera and books including an original Herman Miller catalog from the 1960s. Bright explains “the new space is a mix of everything I have loved surrounding myself with over the last 15 years.” Visit Bright Lyons to get your mid-century fill.
