Item Description

One Robert Biale Vineyards Magnum of Black Chicken Zinfandel 2009 in a wooden box.

Beware the Black Chicken!  From one of the Biale family's two original vineyards (and one of the last producing vineyards in the city of Napa), this is big, bold, old-vine zin.  The "Black Chicken" name dates from Aldo Biale's first venture in selling wine from the vineyard in the 1940s.  To hide his activity from neighbors on his party line phone, Aldo's customers ordered "a dozen black chickens" to get a case of wine.  The black chicken code refers to the famous rooster crest used on Chianti Classico.  The vines range up to 80 years old, giving the Black Chicken amazing power and structure to go with the super-ripe fruit and spice.

Biale is recognized internationally by writers and sommeliers as being among California’s very finest producers of Zinfandel - the wines being featured on A-restaurant wine lists from coast to coast. Robert Parker, Wine Spectator, Food and Wine, and Decanter have all lauded Biale as one of California’s top practitioners of Zinfandel.
