Item Description
Purchased in Kathmandu by the donor in 2007, this thanka is mounted on traditional brocade for hanging with a wood support on the top and metal pole on the bottom. Image is 39" by 23". Full mounted piece measures 52" by 46". This was represented as a master work.
A small set of prayer flags from the Kimbu Valley of Nepal is included.
"Thanka" literally means "painting on cloth." Intensely colorful paintings of deities of the Buddhist religion are painted by highly skilled artists. The painting process is very laborious and can take months to complete.
