Item Description

The sari is the traditional dress of the women of India.  It is the outer garment consisting of a single length of silk -- 5 to 7 yards long, with one end wrapped around the waist to form a skirt and the other end draped over the shoulder.  It is worn over a short, tight top called a "choli" with short sleeves.

This brilliant green and gold colored 100% silk sari is from Varanasi, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India and a city famous all over the country for silk brocades and beautiful saris.  This particular sari measures 7 yards long and 45" wide.

Delicate clusters of faux rhinestones embellish the sari, catching the light and injecting sparkle throughout  the green and gold fabric.  Single tiny faux rhinestones are scattered along the border of the sari adding brilliance to the piece as well.  An intricate pattern of golden threads are prominent on the reverse side with green in the background,

This beautiful handmade silk sari is from the private collection of the donor, Toni Neubauer, the founder of READ Global.
