Item Description

Enjoy Opera Providence's performance of Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte on June 3rd at 8pm or June 5th at 3pm at the Park Theatre -  RI Center For Performing Arts. This production will be sung in English.

Mozart’s opera, with libretto written by Lorenzo DaPonte, was first performed in Vienna in 1790. Mozart and DaPonte took as a theme “fiancée swapping” which dates back to the 13th century.  Thus “Così fan tutte” is a deliciously ironic look at the foibles of love.  Two sisters, their fiancés, and a bet – Will the women be faithful? “Of Course,” brag the men. “Nay,” says the cynical Don Alfonso.  Thus we enter the world of disguises and trickery in which the women – and Love itself – are put to the test.  Mozart’s genius turns a farce into a scintillating blend of thought provoking humor.  “Così fan tutte” is the perfect opera for those who prefer their laughter sandwiched with a slice of wry.
