Item Description
The Maasai are a pastoral tribe who live in Kenya and Tanzania in the Great Rift Valley of East Africa. In Maasai villages a young boy is often seen holding a tall stick with a sharp point representing a warrior's spear. At a very early age a boy begins to aspire to become a warrior. Warriors are important to the tribe to capture a cow to be killed for a ceremony or for protecting their herd from lions.
The spear of a Maasai warrior is one of his most precious possessions.
This handsome handcrafted/hand forged spear was purchased 25 years ago from a Maasai tribesman in Kenya's Amboseli National Park, situated at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. His fine workmanship has produced a collectors item!
Three piece spear: overall length: 53"; short hand forged spear: 12"; longer hand forged spear: 20.5"; dark wood center piece: 20.5"--hand carved in a traditional tribal design. (kind of wood: unknown)
Item Special Note
Maasai wedding collar in picture is not offered for auction.
