Item Description

Framed Watercolor/Ink.  Christine Mix was born in Dayton Ohio, in the early 1960's. In the mid 1970's, Chris's family moved to Connecticut, where her father was raised, just outside of New York City. She drew, painted, and played with clay, as a child. Chris studied art at Coker College, in Hartsville, S.C. for one year and then headed to Florida, where she received an art scholarship for painting, at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa. It was just after she graduated from the University of South Florida in 1988, with a B.A. in Fine Arts and another B.A. in Mass Communications, that she painted her first children's illustration in watercolor, titled Spike & Wordo's Magical Wish. Hence, Spike the Dragon was born and Christine realized she had found her niche in art and her future!

Christine's watercolor illustrations and drawings, have appeared in several Vermont newspapers, and four issues of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators Association's, SCBWI Bulletin, a bi-monthly magazine, 2005 thru 2010, and on cover of the Journal of the Annual Manchester & the Mountains Poets and Writers Weekend, published by Shire Press, Manchester, Vt., Spring, 2009.

Christine illustrated her first children's book, Write Out of the Oven! by Josephine Waltz, published by Teacher Ideas Press/Greenwood Publishing in 2005. Write Out of the Oven! personally connects children in grades 5-8 with their favorite literary heroes! A collection of letters and recipes from more than 50 well-known and award-winning children's authors. Write Out of the Oven! Received a nice review from the Parents Choice Foundation Bon Appetite Reading List.

As an author, Chris has written one short story, Standing Up, in Chicken Soup for the Child's Soul, Character Building Stories to Read with Kid's Ages 5-8, published 2007.
Her paintings have been exhibited at the Southern Vermont Art Center, the Martha Canfield Gallery, the Dorset Library, the Middlebury Arts Walk, and the South Londonderry Free Library, and recently at the Chaffee Art Center's, When the Wind Bears Go Dancing, An Exhibit of Children's Book Illustrations, March thru April, 2010, as well as, the Chaffee's Winter Member's show, of 2010. In Spring of 2010, Christine was invited to paint one illustration for Tilsbury House Publisher's One of Us/Powered by Girl Exhibit, to be displayed at the Book Culture, for the Book Expo America, NYC, May, 2010, which was a big hit.
She is a member of SCBWI, the VSS, the Chaffee Art Center and SVAC. For more information about Chris, her illustrations, and what's new, visit her On-line Portfolio at: www.chrismixart.comor her blog at: http://chrismixkidsillustrator.blogspot.com/
