Item Description
FRESHFARM Markets Board member and longtime market farmer, Mark Toigo from Toigo Orchards is offering someone the chance to donate not just once, but twice! Our Gleaning Program establishes a partnership with emergency food providers in our market neighborhoods who use the leftover fresh product in their meals every market day. This program has been an important part of our community outreach since we started the markets.
Mark is offering this unique opportunity for one of our bidders to increase this type of giving to another level. Mark will donate 100 hours of gleaning from his tomato fields, apple orchards, or both and in turn, deliver that product to one of our gleaning partners (winner's choice), in the winning bidder's name. This is an incredible chance to give to both organizations and be really, really good in time for the holidays!
Last year's winner asked that the product be shipped to gleaning partner DC Central Kitchen (DCCK). The photographs show the apples being harvested and awaiting preparation at DCCK just this past month.
The Toigo's 450-acre farm in Shippensburg, PA, and has been farmed since 1790. The land now supports a spectacular array of fruits and vegetables, as well as hydroponic production of tomatoes.
Item Special Note
For 2012 growing season only. Arrangements to be made by mutual agreement with notice of at least one month, so that Mark can schedule with the emergency food provider.
