Item Description
I lived in Virginia at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains for 3 years. The woods just exploded with the harbingers of spring - that purple pink of the redbuds and the white dappled dogwoods. Copland's music reminds me of that wonderful time of year so I just had to do that theme. The hummingbird on the back came to me from a memory of a mimosa tree that literally vibrated there were so many hummingbirds in it! My Appalachian Spring memories...
The violin was created using vitreous glass, stained glass, mirror and beaded pull chain. The stained glass was chosen specifically to capture that redbud pink and the vibrant spring greens. The design was laid out and glued on nylon mesh, later transferred onto thinset spread over the violin, and finally grouted.
