Item Description
It’s the gathering place for residents of Brewster Massachusetts and summer visitors alike. It’s The Brewster Store. This well loved landmark was built in 1852 as a Universalist church and converted to a general store in 1862. It has been selling provisions, general merchandise, and gifts ever since and has been “The Center of the Universe” for many in this quaint, Cape Cod town. This lithograph print has been signed and numbered by artist Karen North Wells. It’s framed in wood and measures 20”H x 20”W.
Karen North Wells, an award-winning artist based in Cape Cod, primarily paints in watercolor and oil. She considers herself an impressionistic painter, neither painting absolute realism, nor abstraction but somewhere in the middle.
Karen regularly paints florals, boats, still lifes, landscapes and seascapes, but bringing buildings and waterviews to life for special commissions are Karen's specialties. In addition to her commissioned original paintings, Karen has an extensive line of dozens of limited-edition prints and cards, making her work affordable to all.She also teaches watercolor workshops for The Cape Cod Art Association in Barnstable, MA, and The Creative Arts Centers in Chatham, MA.
Karen North Wells and her late husband, renowned architect Malcolm Wells, own the Underground Art Gallery, located on Satucket Road, one half mile from the historic Brewster Grist Mill and herring run. The gallery is an earth-covered structure built in 1988 to demonstrate environmentally-sound construction practices, as well as house Karen and Mac's production studios and exhibit spaces.
