Item Description

A New England Treasure, throughout the eighteenth century and past the middle of the nineteenth, the practice of imitative painting techniques, including graining, marbelizing, and fanatsy finishes was widespread among the American colonitsts.  Each craftsman had to rely on his own resourcefulness and imagination to develop the paints, tools and techniques necessary to create these visual transformations.  

Hand marbleized paper lining, hand painted "Primitive" floral with faux finish; 12" wide, 7 1/2" deep and 4 1/2" tall.
