Item Description
From the collection of Pink Martini's Thomas Lauderdale, this cheerful painting of daises was painted by Phyllis Diller, who is widely credited as being the first woman to successfully pursue a career in stand-up comedy. At different stages in her career she has also been an author, concert pianist, and actress, appearing in sixteen movie roles, often in a supporting role to longtime friend Bob Hope. With a comedy persona based on outrageous wigs, makeup, and a pantomime cackle, Diller's comedic success paved the way for a younger generation of female comics such as Roseanne Barr and Whoopi Goldberg.
Item Special Note
The back of this painting has been signed by Phyllis Diller.
