Item Description

Buffalo Snow  (2007) by Elizabeth Leader and Eve Tulbert is a beautifully illustrated book that recounts the story of a little girl and her older brother who are stranded in a blinding Buffalo whiteout.

Elizabeth Leader grew up in Saugus, a working-class town on the north shore of Boston, Massachusetts. After graduating from the Massachusetts College of Art, she moved to Upstate New York to attend the Rochester Institute of technology. Leader currently lives in the city of Buffalo, where she maintains a studio at the Tri-Main Center.

First the Egg (2007)   by Laura Vaccaro Seeger.  WHICH CAME FIRST?  The chicken or the egg?  Simple die-cuts magically present transformation-- from seed to flower, tadpole to frog, caterpillar to butterfly.

Laura Vaccaro Seeger is a New York Times best-selling author and the recipient of a 2008 Caldecott Honor, a 2008 Geisel Honor, a 2007 New York Times Best Illustrated Book Award, and the 2007 Boston Globe/Horn Book Award for Best Picture Book

The Mysterious Tadpole - 25th Anniversary Edition(2002) by Steven Kellogg.    After receiving a tadpole straight from the waters of Scotland as a birthday gift from his Uncle McAllister, Louis soon learns that he hasn’t inherited a normal amphibian—could it be that the creature, born in the waters of the infamous Loch Ness, has grown into the tall tale creature itself?

An author and colorful illustrator with over ninety children’s books to his name, Steven Kellogg is best known for writing exciting books about animals of all sorts.

The Trouble With Henry(2005) by Deborah O'Neal.     This delightful tale of the American literary figure Henry David Thoreau imagines the title character, referred to simply as Henry, in the midst of a town crisis in Concord, MA regarding the pollution of natural resources, who then relocates to his peaceful cabin at Walden Pond. When a Boston company plans to build a factory near his quaint cottage, Henry leads the townsfolk into the picturesque woods at Walden and persuades them to realize what natural beauty they will destroy in exchange for industrial progress. Young children will love and empathize with the charming character of Henry.

The Trouble with Henry, written by Deborah O’Neal and Angela Westengard, with colorful illustrations provided by S.D. Schindler, creates a fictional story around the real-life Henry David Thoreau, a prominent literary and naturalist figure in American history. While the plot is imagined, the character of Henry is representative of Thoreau’s beliefs and insights concerning the value of man’s relationship with nature.
