Dr. Harold E. Edgerton, a professor of electrical engineering at MIT, was a pioneer of multiflash and microsecond imagery, which he used to record what the unaided eye cannot see.
This is a rare, monumental print of one of “Doc” Edgerton’s most famous images, now a classic in the history of photography. The photograph was created in Edgerton’s laboratory and shows Wes Fesler, then Harvard’s head basketball coach and earlier a three-time All-American football star at Ohio State.
The image was taken at 1/100,000th of a second and clearly reveals the moment of impact when a kicker smashes his boot into a football.
