As a semi-resident of Pittsburgh, Ross Mantle frequently returns to the Monongahela Valley to photograph these former mill towns in decline. With empathy, insight and an unerring eye, Mantle photographs “people [who] have neither passed on nor moved on” writes Robert Raczka of City Paper (December 11, 2011), “while capturing the visual richness of an accumulated past that many residents undervalue.”
