Item Description
Step back in time to 1854 and spend a few hours with Henry Thoreau! This is a Living History lecture by historian Richard Smith as Thoreau. Richard will re-create a 19th Century lyceum experience by reading one of Thoreau's more popular essays, "Walking" (or a Thoreau essay of your choice). The lecture will be followed by a "Question and Answer" session with Mr. Thoreau. The entire performance lasts one to one and a half hours. This visit with Thoreau is geared towards audiences of all ages but works particularly well with high school groups or social organizations such as historical societies. Richard has appeared as Henry Thoreau for almost 8 years in and around Concord and is frequently seen at Walden Pond. He was featured on the C-Span "American Writers" series twice and was recently seen on the Boston television show "Chronicle."
