Archival pigment print

After the dissolution of the supergroups Cream and Blind Faith, Eric Clapton released his self-titled solo album in 1970. Soon after, he formed Derek and the Dominos, recruiting guitarist Duane Allman and various members of Delaney & Bonnie's band. Their lone studio album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, would become a classic of both the blues-rock and rock genres.

For many fans, Derek and the Dominos was the most consistently exciting group Clapton ever toured with and the most passionate live playing of his career. In this previously unpublished photograph, Scott Smith indelibly captures the musician in the spotlight, Stratocaster in hand, performing during this now-legendary tour.
