Tiznow was noted for his toughness on the dirt. In fifteen starts, he won 8 times, placed 4 times, and came in third twice. Over his career he won $6,427,830.
At 3, he won the Breeders' Cup Classic, beating Irish champion Giant's Causeway,Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, and Lemon Drop Kid. He also won the Super Derby, Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap, and Affirmed Handicap, and was second in the Pacific Classic Stakes and Swaps Stakes.
When he was 4, he again won the Breeders' Cup Classic), beating Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Sakhee. He also won the Santa Anita Handicap and the San Fernando Breeders' Cup Stakes, placed in the Strub Stakes), and was third in the Woodward Stakes and the Goodwood Breeders' Cup.
Tiznow is the only racehorse to date to have won the Breeders' Cup Classic twice. He was inducted into racing's Hall of Fame in 2009.
