Item Description

Anne Scheurich has been a portrait artist for over twenty years. Her pastels of her own children created a demand in New Orleans for her softly rendered pastels. Portraits in oil have become Anne’s emphasis but pastels of children still bring her a great deal of joy and satisfaction. Anne’s vision and sensitivity to the personality of her subjects have kept her in demand throughout her career.

In 1998, Anne was commissioned by the Archdiocese of New Orleans to paint the official portrait of the Archbishop of New Orleans, Francis B. Scholte. The painting can be viewed on the ceiling of St. Louis Cathedral, where it will remain as part of its permanent collection. In 2000 Anne created the official Mardi Gras Proclamation for REX, King of the Carnival. The Proclamation, which depicts the Captain leading the Rex parade through the canopy of oak trees on St. Charles Avenue, is one of the most popular ever created and can be viewed at the Louisiana State Museum.

The item offered in today’s auction, a 24x36 portrait, is prototype displaying the artist’s ability to capture the unique character and spirit of her subject. The bidding for this timeless work is done in the medium of oil. The winning bidder will be able to work directly with the artist to personalize their portrait. One must simple provide a photograph of the chosen subject.
