Item Description

The May Festival is Cincinnati's world-famous annual showcase of choral masterworks conducted by James Conlon. For this concert, storytelling magic plus music!  Stravinsky’s opera-oratorio Oedipus Rex delves into Sophocles’ timeless Greek tragedy, one of the plays that Stravinsky loved most in his youth.

Mythical love stories weave through the sensuous, evocative music of Debussy and Ravel—from the tale of The Blessed Damozel, in which the damsel waits for her lover’s spirit to join her in the heavens, to the Sirens who sing their mysterious song as they tempt the sailors on the moonlit sea, to Ravel’s lush depiction of the love story between the goatherd Daphnis and the shepherdess Chloé.

Item Special Note

Your ticket in the first row of Music Hall's Gallery section V suspends you like a swallow above Maestro Conlon, brilliant soloists, the chorus and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The May 17 concert adds a new dimension with stage direction by Ed Stern, who won two regional Emmy Awards as artistic director of the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, and storytelling by Joneal Joplin, one of Cincinnati's most beloved actors. Your ticket also includes the pre-concert recital at 7 pm by baritone Donnie Ray Albert.
