Item Description
Travel back to the Downton Abbey era for an authentic English High Tea for eight guests prepared by noted caterer Karen Schwartz. Your guests will delight in the five-course menu of mouth-watering delicacies.
Your home, perhaps your library or drawing room, will be the setting of this memorable celebration. The first course will be a savory appetizer, which will be followed by a cup of cream or clear soup. The third course, a mini-entre, might be Welsh Rarebit or tasty sausage rolls. This is succeeded by delicious tea sandwiches spread with such traditional fillings as cucumber, watercress, fish mousses and meats. The Grand Finale, a.k.a. dessert, will be a selection of cakes, tarts, scones and tea breads. Possibilities include Dundee cake, memorable, chocolate dipped shortbreads, lemon curd tartlets, and a berry topped torte. Appropriate cups of tea will be paired and served.
Throughout this culinary celebration—the English excelled in tea rituals—Karen Schwartz will explain about both the formalities and misconceptions of the various categories of English teas. So whether you aspire to be the Dowager Countess or Lady Mary, bring out your hats and gloves if you wish, and relive what the English do so well. Mr. Carson and Mrs. Patmore would approve.
