Item Description

Amazing handcrafted and painted tile-inlay concole table, created by Crew 14, Mary Lehmberg's 4th grade class.  Inspired by their Lewis and Clark "Corps of Discovery" expedition, the mural depicts the Missouri River flowing up past the Rocky Mountains, their keel boat by a grove of Aspen, and Table Mountain.

The table was constructed by Mike Ferrante of Constructin Et Cetera, and incorporates fir wood, copper tubing railroad iron tie decorative nails, and is finsihed with natural linseed oil.

Teacher Mary Lehmnburg wanted something to tie into her      expedition "Corps of Discovery," so Kath Schad looked to the Lewis and Clark journey.  She designed the mural to include a compass rose with the Earth as it's center as a focal point, with Lewis and Clark taking their journey up the Missouri past the Rockies. The design include Birch trees, one of their canoes the made on their journey, and landmark "Table Mountain."  After Kath laid out the design to get an itead of placemnet, the kids created the mural under her direction.  Students drew with special art pens and used special ink to paint the mural on 27 6x6" ceramic tiles.  The tiles were then set into the table covered with a thick hard resin so it will be preserved for many years to come.
